Together, We Can Make a Difference
Since the onset of the covid-19 pandemic there have been consistent outbreaks in Tijuana’s hospitals that have led to mass shortages of physicians leaving them overwhelmed and often turning away those in need of essential medical care. One of the city's largest hospitals, Tijuana General, has been without half of its staff since spring due to illnesses and furloughing of vulnerable doctors. To add on, the lack of an economic stimulus response from the Mexican government has elevated the shared financial hardship amongst the working class pitting residents to decide between paying their bills or receiving the necessary healthcare they need and rightfully deserve.
Serving these communities since 2012 has been a privilege in and of itself, and we remain committed to our efforts. Thus, in response to the pandemic we have transformed our clinic into telemedicine so that we can continue to meet their healthcare needs in a safe manner with Covid-19. Despite claims of a universal healthcare system in Mexico, local clinics are currently short staffed and our patients have no other medical options besides the care they receive at our monthly virtual consultations. Unable to use funding from UCLA for medications in Mexico, we have been spending money from our personal funds to sustain quality care. Unfortunately, demands for basic necessities and health resources continues, placing us in a position of great financial strain. But we do not want our patients to choose between their medications for chronic conditions and putting food on the table. At this point, any donation can help our patients during the pandemic. All funds generated will go towards crucial supplies for the patients such as masks, hand sanitizers, blood pressure monitors, pulse oximeters, thermometers, and necessary medications. With your help, we can continue providing this virtual access until we are allowed to visit on site again and receive funding from UCLA.
To keep our telemedicine operating well into the 2021 calendar year, we are in desperate need of funds. Our most Recent clinic telehealth session resulted in an $800 medication bill. These supplies are crucial for our patients to monitor and maintain their health. As the pandemic continues to ravage the globe, the ever growing need of our services in the communities of Rancho Escondido and Colonias Margarita Moran continues to increase in demand. In order to provide for more patients, during the winter season and beyond, we desperately need your help to overcome our limitation in resources. We have included our GoFundMe, Venmo, and Paypal below. Any size donation can help make a substantial difference for our communities.
