MD

DR. DANIEL LEGASPI

I've had the fortunate opportunity to work alongside the UCLA Flying Samaritans for the last year, a student body organization demonstrating drive and unmatched initiative to provide international medical care to impoverished communities in Tijuana, Baja California, MX. The Samaritans display diligence by finding providers to further their cause and seek out all necessary medications and medical devices their patients need without hesitation to cost and effort. Their ability to organize medical, dental, public health, and fundraising donations to the community shows the promised compassion of bright, young, aspiring healthcare providers.

Dr. katherine thomson:

On just our first visit to UCLA’s flying sam’s medical and dental clinic I saw how truly special and dedicated this group is.

I highly recommend anyone who wants to help serve to get involved . The students and providers are all well organized and truly care. It was a privilege to be part of taking care of those in need and I am excited to return and help in as many ways as I can!

Dr. carmen espitia vera:

My time in past clinics since joining Flying Samaritans has been amazing, all the team works with the volunteers, their experience, their help and support is extraordinary and all of that makes the service for the community better and even answering some of the questions that they have. I love to help them as well. I don't know everything, but I try to contribute with what I can.

I love to help and I'm glad that I was invited to participate in this beautiful association

As a volunteer with Flying Samaritans at UCLA, you will work with a great group of students and health care providers who are dedicated to meeting the health care needs of patients in Tijuana, Mexico. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Flying Samaritans at UCLA found a way to continue serving patients by organizing telemedicine appointments. Monthly telemedicine and/or in person clinics are an excellent opportunity to learn about not only the science but also the humanity behind medicine.

Testimonial: To be able to provide necessary resources and services to communities in dire need has been a rewarding and humbling experience. I find immense joy out of assisting the people of Tijuana, Mexico, and feel that it is my obligation to do so due to coming from a country that has a plethora of resources and materials at our disposal.

Favorite Flying Samaritan’s Memory: Aside from our memories formed at clinic, I would be mistaken not to mention the post-clinic food crawl that takes place during our walk towards the border. As a huge foodie, I always look forward to the post-clinic asada tacos and freshly-made churros that have my taste buds dancing for hours after.

Favorite Clinic Memory: As an Intern for the Health Education Committee, I took on the responsibility of bringing physical therapists to clinic in order to assist our patients who had been experiencing body pain. With the help of DPT students from Chapman University, this project came to fruition at our March clinic, and seeing our goals being accomplished was an amazing sight to see; patients were served, and their bodies were brought one step closer to healing.
